Yesterday at Zara. „Horrible. My grandpa owns one of these“, says a stylishly dressed twenty-year-old. With a painful expression on her face, she is holding a brown corduroy blazer in her hand. Ouch – too much retro, I guess. Not everyone can handle that!

Granted, corduroy comes with a very dominant old school stigma. Think of an elementary school teacher of the seventies, who plays chess on Saturday nights. Verdict: Not hot. But actually, that’s pretty unfair. If you look at corduroy objectively, it’s a pretty beautiful fabric. Elegant with an unusual look and feel, very warming for the fall.

So, I say it’s time for an image change! The designers seem to agree – this season we’re witnessing a huge corduroy comeback in stores.

How to create a modern cord blazer outfit? Here is my suggestion.

CORDUROY BLAZER OUTFIT
Mixing Fabrics for the Fall

Since I’ve seen Stranger Things on Netflix, I have discovered a real passion for the fashion of the 70s. Including corduroy. Depending on how you combine the trendy fabric, it doesn’t have to look outdated at all. Here’s how not to look like a nerd: Take a striking corduroy piece in a rich and luscious color and combine it with (faux-)leather. Adding some trendy items to spice it all up is highly recommended. That’s how you style a modern corduroy blazer outfit!

It was love at first sight when I discovered this pretty burgundy blazer at Massimo Dutti. What a beautiful timeless jacket for the fall! The vibrant color is just perfect for this time of the year.

I like to mix classic pieces like this corduroy blazer with trends. That’s why I chose pants in the infamous kickflare style, that’s been everywhere in 2018. The perfect shoe match were my new sock boots by Fred De La Bretoniere. How cool is this mix of fabrics! If you love boots like me, these are an amazing new interpretation of the classic black version.

„Only fools don’t change their opinions“, Karl Lagerfeld once said. So let’s give corduroy a second chance and let go of the old ideas and associations. By the way: The corduroy critic from Zara bought the blazer after all. Verdict: Kind of cool.
